The Pacific Tsunami Center has cancelled the watch on the Tsunami. The event was triggered by an earthquake measuring 8.0 this morning near Vanuatu. A Tsunami wave did occur in the Vanuatu area but is no longer any threat to New Zealand. There are no reports of the damage resulting from the wave so far. [...]

By John Grant New zealand is on Tsunami watch after a magnatude 8.0 earthquake near Vanuatu this morning. People have been warned to stay away from beaches and low lying areas. According to the Pacific Tsunami Centre there is potential for a Tsunami wave in New Zealand although this has not been confirmed.
