1960 Broadcast from Shortland Street in that strange red brick building with no windows, in central Auckland, New Zealand’s first official television transmission began at 7.30 p.m. The first night’s programming lasted just three hours and could only be seen in Auckland.The first broadcast included an episode of The Adventures of Robin Hood, a live interview with a visiting British ballerina and a performance by the Howard Morrison Quartet.
1926 Marilyn Monroe was born in Los Angeles. On her birthday in 1995 the U.S. Postal Service honored the late actress with a 32-cent stamp.
