Volvo yacht race set to go at 2pm today

They’re only just getting their breath back from the previous leg, but the Volvo Ocean Race fleet are set to depart Auckland for Brazil today.

Team New Zealand’s Camper is in third after a win in the in-port race, still 18 points behind overall leaders Telefonica.  Camper Skipper Chris Nicholson says it’s a strange feeling leaving after only being in Auckland for a week.  Nicholson says it almost feels as though something’s not right, as they’re still tired from the previous leg, and they’ve got to take on the Southern Ocean.

The fleet departs at 2 o’clock, the area around Devonport and North Head is expected to be one of the key vantage points to see the yachts depart Auckland.
