Police have charged a 24-year-old Glenfield mother after her young son was found wandering the street alone at 2.30am.
A neighbour discovered the four year old in Bayview on July 7 and notified police. he child was crying and calling out ”Mummy”.
Police went to a nearby address and found that the mother had left the boy at home while she went out drinking.
She had left three hours earlier. She has been charged with leaving a child without reasonable supervision and care which carries a maximum fine of $2000.
The boy was placed in the care of his father at another address.
Police say that if it had not been for the alertness of the neighbour and the fact the child was a light sleeper there is every chance he would have wandered further and become lost on a cold winter’s night.
