Cliff fall results in death

Police have recovered the body of a young Asian man on Auckland’s North Shore.

It was initially thought the man had fallen down a cliff near Kauri Point, close to the Chelsea Sugar Factory, but this was not the case, Takapuna Fire Service Senior Station Officer Shaun Pilgrim said.

The misunderstanding had probably been due to a language difficulty of the person who phoned police.

Emergency services received the call shortly after 2pm yesterday, he said.

Police were still at the scene but were not treating the death as suspicious and would refer it to the coroner, he said.
