Glenfield death in car fire not suspicious

The death of a man in a car fire in Marcel Place Glenfield has been referred to the Coroner.

Police sources said that the post mortem had revealed that their were no suspicious circumstances into the death following a car fire in the garage of the house early on Saturday morning.

Neighbours had been woken by a car revving it’s engine and was later followed by fire trucks arriving at the property.

This followed an earlier death in a fire in another Glenfield property which is still being investigated. A woman died in that fire and a man sustained serious injuries. He is still being treated in Middlemore hospital.

The body has been identified as that of Shayne Colin McLean.

Police said they  cannot comment on cause of death as the matter is now before the coroner and they have now finished their investigation.
