If you were out and about early this morning and it felt particularly cold then you were right as today was the coldest day of the year so far.
It was colder than predicted with Hamilton dropping to zero and Palmerston North and Timaru recording 1 degree at 7:30am.
Parts of Auckland fell to 7 degrees while Dunedin fell to 2 degrees.
Christchurch recorded 4 degrees, along with Paraparaumu and Lower Hutt.
Wellington fell to 8 degrees.
Clear skies are in order for many parts of the North Island today with clouds brushing the east coast and moving up the South Island.
