Arrest warrant issued over Auckland taxi killing

The police have revealed an arrest warrant has been issued over the killing of Auckland taxi driver Hiren Mohini, but have moved to suppress the person’s identity.

Mr Mohini was killed in what the police describe was a frenzied knife attack at the end of January.

Police widely publicized images of a suspect in the case and have since said they believe the man has left the country.

They have now revealed the Auckland District Court issued a warrant for the man’s arrest at the end of February.

At the time, they decided publicity about the warrant or the suspect’s identity would hinder their attempts to find him.

Police say a suppression order was made at the start of this month, covering a range of things including the man’s name and former workplace.
