Tsunami warning impacts on events: The Cathy Pacific half Marathon canceled and Onetangi Beach race postponed

The Cathay Pacific half marathon on the Auckland waterfront is among events cancelled because of the tsunami alert.

The tsunami warning has prompted the cancellation of the Cathay Pacific half marathon on the Auckland waterfront. 2,000 people were due to take part in the event, which was to have started in Okahu Bay at 7 this morning.

Organiser Alan Moore says Civil Defence asked them to cancel the event. The sponsor has decided prizes will be awarded to competitors on a random basis.

On Waiheke Island, the Onetangi Beach races have been postponed. They will now be held on the 14th of March.
