New Zealander evacuated to higher ground in Chile

North Shore residents Peter Bowden and Sue Bowden are currently in Rio de Janeiro on a South American holiday.

Part of the trip was to meet up with their son Chris Bowden who is currently in coastal Chile.

They have reported that he was evacuated to higher ground this morning as a precaution. All of those evacuated have been returned.

It is not know how many New Zealander’s are in the area and impacted by today’s 8.8 magnitude earthquake. The impact of the earthquake is expected to be felt across the Pacific as 51 countries are under Tsunami warnings.
