Shaun still ok … but activated distress signal last night

Trans-Tasman rower Shaun Quincey’s boat has flipped over at least twice in rough seas, knocking the 24-year-old around quite severely, and possibly resulting in the loss of his oars.

Quincey activated a distress signal on Tuesday night and has contacted the New Zealand Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

He was planning to check the boat and equipment on Wednesday morning and make a decision later on whether to continue the expedition.

His support crew say he’s safe in his cabin and appears physically and mentally well.

Quincey has rowed more than 2000km and has passed the halfway mark on his solo rowing expedition from Australia to New Zealand.
