Saun had a great day with conditions ideal for progressing his single handed row from Coff’s Harbour to New Zealand.
That was until he felt a bump and discovered he had run into a whale! He’s his comments on the incident from Twitter!
Just rowed into a whale. It was about 3 times bigger than the boat! Packed myself!
and this from his web site;
Quincey had an awesome day rowing. With the wind behind him and swells to ride Shaun made about 50nmiles today and is very upbeat.
The highlight of the trip thus far occurred this morning. Shaun was rowing along when all of a sudden his progress halts as he hits something hard. Immediately he thinks he has hit a container and stands up to have a look. All of a sudden a huge whale head breaches the surface next to the boat causing Shaun to drop to his knees and hold onto the safety cable for dear life! Quincey said it seemed to be about 2-3 times the length of the boat, had a small dorsal fin and had a pretty square head. It hung around for 5 or so minutes before Shaun quietly rowed away in awe! Its incredible that in the vastness of the Tasman he should bump straight into a whale!
The forecast is set to be favourable again tomorrow and Shaun hopes to break the 160degree E mark.
So all in all good progress. You can follow him by seeing our regular updates or visit him at the website www.tasmantrespasser.com. Here is the latest position we have of Shaun.
