Opinion
The Government has recently mooted the possibility of raisng taxes on tobacco. This is one topic that is rasing sparks with all. Despite the fact that there are probably far more important issues that need attention.

Most people would agree that the habit is unhealthy and often anti-social.
We would welcome your views on the matter.
In terms of food for thought:
Is NZ Nana state back so soon?
Is this a tax that disproportionately affects the poor, who are more likely to smoke than the rich?
Addiction generally is a problem affecting all facets of modern society. What if there is a genetic predisposition to certain addictions? Is’nt the tax a penalty for choosing the wrong parents?
At what point do high taxes out weigh the public health costs?
Does forcing people to curb a habit by one means – removes free choice?
And isn’t it nice to have the odd cigar and decent whiskey now and then?
