In 1977, Colin Quincey made history in the Tasman Trespasser by completing the first, and so far only, solo crossing of the Tasman sea from Australia to New Zealand
Now his son, Shaun Quincey, 24, plans to imitate his father’s feat.
He launched the Tasman Trespasser Two at Takapuna Beach in Auckland on Tuesday before sending it to Australia.
Quincey plans to leave from Coffs Harbour in New South Wales in January. The 2200km voyage is expected to take up to 70 days.
