On Wednesday 2nd December the Auckland Regional Council Parks and Heritage Committee will be meeting to decide on whether to contribute funds to the purchase of ‘Area D’, which encompasses the area down from Beach Road, Torbay, to Long Bay Regional Park.
This area has long been the subject of controversy as park supporters have feared that the rolling green hills might become the site for development, just like so many other beaches.
The Long Bay – Okura Great Park Society plans to meet outside the ARC Council Chambers, at 21 Pitt Street, Auckland, before the meeting at 11am, and though the Committee meeting is private, the Society will be putting pressure from the outside for the councilors to vote YES on the purchase of the land, so that it can be in council hands.
If you wish to support the cause, call Chris Bettany on 479 4015 for more information and to be part of the updates on this event.
