In an effort to cut the number of minor cases clogging courtrooms, North Shore police will be continuing a trial of warning rather than charging offenders in some cases.

The offences will include those with maximum penalties of two years in prison or less:
Disorderly behaviour.
Shoplifting.
Possession of cannabis.
Common assault.
Possession of knives.
Intimidation.
Possession of burglary tools.
The policy is being tested in the Auckland region, including the North Shore, Waitakere and Manukau, for six months after a successful three-month pilot in the North Shore District Court.
