List for new protected trees closed

By Claire Ahuriri

treesIn January 2012 the rule that you cannot chop down a protected tree over a certain height will end.

Auckland City Council and North Shore City Council have both been taking suggestions on which trees to protect – but it seems the deadline has already passed.

All councils involved will have to reconfigure to a certain extent once the Super City Council comes into effect.

Waitakere City Council is only just opening their nominations to protect individual trees.

Currently, despite activists Tree Council trying to push the deadline back, anyone trying to get a North Shore tree on the protected list now, may be chargedt $2000.
