North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams says the government needs to do more than 10% if there is going to be a solution to the leaky homes problem
Mayor Williams compared the problem to that of a national disaster and that governements have spent far more money on less important projects in the past.
“We are pleased the government has come with some sort of deal,” he told Breakfast on Wednesday, “but the problem I have is that it’s too small, too insignificant in terms of a national disaster.”
“We are moving in the right direction,” he says.
Mr Williams suggested that a match dollar for dollar would be best.
The mayors of the six most affected councils are hoping to meet with government officials by the end of the month to discuss options.
