The scene of the battle is North Shore’s first native plant reserve, which started the trend of respect for native plants back in the 1950s.

The managers of Fernglen Native Plant Reserve are up in arms after learning that Vector wants to lop the branches off five of the native residents as they are interfering with power lines.

Vector have lodged a resource consent application with North Shore City Council.

Meanwhile those to whom the reserve is dear are asking, why can’t they just move the power lines?

Vector refuses to do this unless the committee of the reserve help to meet the bill.

They are also pointing to the Electricity Regulations of 2003 which says owners are to keep trees clear of power lines because of the diverse risks.
