I was shocked to read the article in the North Shore Times Advertiser concerning the $400,000 spend on upgrading it’s web site.
I had to have a double look at it to make sure it was for real. I then checked the date just to make sure it wasn’t April1.
No it is for real. Our council is to spend $400,000 upgrading the website that is bound to be on the list for major change when the new supercity venture arrives.
However the council have come out saying that it will be money well spent, it’s needed, and further more it will be used when the new amalgamated council is formed.
I’ve struggled with the series of poor decisions that the council has made over the years. However I don’t want to put this immediately in that category but I can’t help but feel the timing is woeful and at the very least we need to see some degree of justification for the proposed spend. Certainly some better arguments for it than have so far been put forward.
The level of justification at the moment appears superficial and the spend is not a small amount.
Maybe someone needs to show some leadership, as one of the rate payers in this area I know I would like to see some restraint while the new structure is developed.
Have your say, are you happy to see $400,000 of rate payer funds spent on upgrading a web site that may or may not have a future?

This seems like a huge waste of rate payer money. How on earth can they say its justified when they are all about to merge into one new organisation? Any company I have worked for that’s about to merge or acquire will put on hold all of these types of projects till its decided what the new platform going forward will be. Shame on the council for such wastage!
How dare the NSCC that amount of money upgrading the web site… Just another example of beaurecrats wasting taxpayers money they have never personally earned.. Absolutely immoral.. Where’s Rodney Hide.!!!!!
How rediculous..spending so much money on the upgrade of instantly obsolete technology with supercity massive change planned…Perhaps more money should be spent on PR people…. In tough times when residents struggle to make rate payments…. this was never going to be a popular decission… No points for winning friends NSCC…..
